The Royal Diaries is a great series which introduces young girls to their historical idols through the lens of the young queens to be at the tender ages of 12-14. Anastasia s one of the most interesting princesses in history and this is not because of her life (which ended at a very young age) but because she became an urban legend. She is well represented in this depiction and the historical evidence available at the time of publication was taken into account and used in writing this book. I would stress to the young person who picks this up that the evidence has changed in this story and if they want to know her fate that they should research it. I use these novels in the Girl Scout JR Badge Playing the Past.
