The Royal Diaries is a great series which introduces young girls to their historical idols through the lens of the young queens to be at the tender ages of 12-14. Kristina was depicted with a fresh personality and describes how many young women feel when confronted with gender norms. I would use this to help a younger person see the LGBTQ community existed in the past. Although it does not pin her sexuality outright it is suggested as with most kids books. I use these novels in the Girl Scout JR Badge Playing the Past.
